Palaeonisciformes, Stegotrachelus finlayi
GRI #599
Stegotrachelus finlayi was a ray-finned fish, completely covered in scales, with an asymmetrical tail. This specimen is about 12 cm in length. Stegotrachelus had many ray-like bones in its fins, similar to what most living fish have (Swartz, 2009). It lived in freshwater lakes, and its fossils are found in Devonian sediments of Germany and Scotland (Paleobiology Database, n.d.). This particular specimen is from Scotland.
